The Rare and Beautiful World of Blob Mutations in Mushrooms

3 Unique Blob Formations!
3 Unique Blob Formations!

Mushrooms are full of surprises, and among the most fascinating are blob mutations—rare, sporeless formations that can only be propagated through live culture. These unique fungi stand apart in the mycology world for their strength, stunning formations, and difficulty in cultivation. Because they require more care and expertise to grow, they are prized among cultivators and enthusiasts.

The Origin of Blob Mutations: Enigma

The first known blob mutation originated from the Mushroom Tidal Wave strain and was named Enigma. What makes Enigma truly special in the industry is not just its unusual growth pattern but the culture surrounding it. Unlike other strains, Enigma is never bought or sold—it is only gifted to those who are seen as doing meaningful or innovative work in the field. To trade or sell it is considered bad juju among cultivators, reinforcing the deep sense of respect and community in mycology.

Shipwreck: The Gifted Thai Lipa Mutation

Another blob mutation that follows this tradition is Shipwreck, a Thai Lipa mutation isolated by Psilo Simon. Like Enigma, Shipwreck is never sold, only passed between those who have earned recognition for their contributions to the craft. This keeps the lineage pure and maintains the sacred nature of these remarkable fungi.

McNigma: A Special Mush Love Strain

One of the blob mutations closest to our hearts is McNigma, a sporeless yet stabilized blob-like mutation derived from McKennaii. This strain has a direct connection to Mush Love: Alex sent a sample of his McKennaii culture to his close friend and industry leader, Milly Wyco. When Milly grew it out, it unexpectedly developed into a blob mutation, which he named McNigma—a nod to both McKenna and Enigma. We take immense pride in being part of this strain's lineage and love seeing its continued growth.

Mush-Love Mallows: Our Own Blob Mutation in the Making

At Mush Love, we’re also working on stabilizing our own blob mutation, which we’ve named Mush-Love Mallows. This unique strain originated from DC Nothing, and we’re excited to share more about its development in an upcoming post.

Other Blob Mutations We’re Growing

While some blob mutations are exclusively gifted, others can be purchased. Two notable ones we’re currently growing and adding to our offerings are:

  • Mr. Krinkle Brains

  • H.T.F Brains

Both of these were developed by Dave Wombat, and we’re eager to cultivate them and make them available in our products.

How We Offer Blob Mutations: Chocolate & Honey

Due to their potency and delicate structure, we only offer these rare strains through our chocolate bars and, occasionally, in honey.

  • Chocolate provides the best overall experience, as these mushrooms are extremely strong, and only a small amount is needed.

  • Honey offers a long shelf life, making it a great option for those who want to store it long-term.

A Visual Journey

Blob mutations are not just powerful—they are mesmerizing. Their intricate formations and dense, brain-like textures make them some of the most visually stunning mushrooms out there. Watching them grow is like witnessing a living sculpture evolve, twisting and folding in ways that defy traditional mushroom growth.

Unique Shipwreck Formations!
Unique Shipwreck Formations!

And just as their physical forms are unique, so too are the journeys they take you on. These mushrooms offer experiences unlike any other—deep, complex, and beautifully layered. Their effects unfold in unexpected ways, leading to profound insights, vibrant visions, and an overwhelming sense of wonder. No two journeys are ever the same, and much like their growth, they reveal hidden dimensions that reshape the way we see the world.

From the striking patterns of McNigma to the breathtaking formations of Shipwreck, each of these mutations tells its own story through its appearance and the experiences it provides. These fungi are more than just something you grow—they are something you experience.
