Welcoming Subtropicalis: Our Third Species, Offered with Intention

There are moments in the life of Mush Love that feel less like a product launch and more like a deep exhale.

This is one of those moments.
We’re honored to share that Subtropicalis is now the third mushroom species available through Mush Love. This has been a long time coming, not because we’ve been waiting for
the “right time” in a business sense, but because some medicines ask to be approached slowly.
This one did.
How I knew this mushroom was different
I test every mushroom we offer myself. That has always been non-negotiable for me, and Subtropicalis was no different.
About thirty minutes in, I realized something had shifted.
There weren’t strong visuals. Nothing dramatic to point to. But I could feel myself dropping into a place that was deeper and quieter than I expected. It wasn’t overwhelming, but it was unmistakable. Like I had crossed into a space I don’t usually access so quickly.
What stood out most was that I didn’t feel confused or lost. I felt open. Emotionally present in a way that was steady, honest, and very real.
And then I realized I needed support.
Not because anything was wrong, but because something important was happening and I wanted to speak from inside it instead of trying to make sense of it later. So I did what felt natural in that moment.
I reached out to Leslie Arboleda.
The conversation wasn’t planned. I didn’t have language for what I was experiencing yet. But I could talk. I could feel. I could process while I was still in it. That was new for me.
Looking back now, that moment was one of the quiet beginnings of what eventually became Don’t Trip on Your Cape. Subtropicalis didn’t just bring insight. It created space for truth to be spoken while it was still unfolding.
If you’d like to hear that full story in my own words, I share it in Episode 1 of Don’t Trip on Your Cape, where I retell that first experience and explore how it opened something I didn’t yet have a name for.
What Subtropicalis does differently
Subtropicalis is deeply emotional medicine.
It doesn’t skim the surface, and it doesn’t rely on spectacle. Even at lower doses, it has a way of taking you exactly where you need to go. Not because it’s forceful, but because it’s honest.
What makes this mushroom unique is that it allows you to process from inside the deep place itself. You’re not observing your emotions from a distance or circling around them. You’re in them, and somehow still able to speak, feel, and move through what’s present at the same time.
For many people, this is where long-held truths finally have space to be spoken.
The experience is often not primarily visual. Instead, it’s energetic and emotional. People commonly describe feeling their energy field rearranging, like something foundational is being gently but clearly reorganized. Thoughts quiet. The body opens. Emotions move through without needing to be forced or analyzed.
Visuals can appear, but when they do, they tend to be meaningful rather than busy. They arrive as support, not distraction.
One important thing to understand about Subtropicalis is its subtlety over time. Journeys typically last 6–8 hours, and around the halfway point, many people think the experience is over. It isn’t. The medicine often shifts into a quiet, in-between space where vulnerability remains high, even though the intensity feels reduced.
This is often where the most important work happens.
Why this is our third species
Subtropicalis is not an easy species to grow or make available. It’s demanding in cultivation and even more demanding in how it asks to be held.
Because of that, we didn’t rush.
This is not a starter mushroom. It’s not light or playful. And it’s not about doing more. It’s about going deeper with care.
With Cubensis, we support connection to the inner world through imagery, story, and insight.
With Ochraceocentrata, we support connection to the outer world and environment.
With Subtropicalis, we support deep emotional processing, integration, and truth held with compassion.
Offering this third species represents a deepening of what Mush Love is here to do, not an expansion for expansion’s sake.
A quiet invitation
Subtropicalis isn’t loud about what it offers. It doesn’t demand attention. It meets you where you are and invites you to go deeper, gently and honestly. We’re offering it now because we trust the medicine, and we trust the people who feel called to work with it.
This is a space for slowing down, listening inward, and allowing what’s real to be felt and integrated.
This is not about escape. It’s about remembering. And being met with love while you do.
We’re grateful to finally offer Subtropicalis in a way that feels aligned, intentional, and true to the heart of Mush Love.
As always, we’re here to answer questions, hold space, and walk alongside you as you listen for what’s calling next.
